Free tools for proposal teams

Short instruments you can use without signing up or handing over an email address. Each one returns its result on the page, and each one says what it does not measure.

Scope

What each one measures, and what it does not

Proposal Knowledge Maturity Assessment

Measures. Whether proposal knowledge survives the submission that produced it — whether a requirement list, an approved answer, a project record or a decision is still usable by someone who was not on the team.

Does not. It scores one axis — knowledge that survives a submission — and nothing else. Not your win rate, not the quality of your writing, and not your business-development capability as a whole. The recognised model for that breadth is BD-CMM, maintained by the Business Winning Institute; this instrument complements it rather than competing with it. BidBench is another assessment in the wider space.

RFP Effort & Risk Scorer

Measures. The burden the document places on the bidder — requirement volume, mandatory attachments, how much evidence you would have to produce rather than retrieve, and whether the submission window fits the work.

Does not. It does not estimate your probability of winning, judge the quality of the tender document, or say anything about price. Its bands are drawn from practice rather than calibrated against a measured dataset, so treat a score as a structured second opinion, not as a number to plan against.
